A few people have asked me about my decision to
form the Blues Project and if it means the end of the
Whiteflames Band.I thought it would be a good idea
to explain what's going on and so I write this little
piece to put the record straight.
The Origins of The Snowy White Blues Project.
Mostly, through my career, I've made decisions about
my musical direction based on how I felt at the time,
not through any thought of being more 'commercial' or
becoming more 'successful,' or because of people's opinions.
Last year (2008) I starting feeling that it would be a good
idea to form a more blues-based band in which I could
concentrate more on playing the guitar, partly because I
am well aware that my vocals are certainly not the strongest
part of my performance, and partly because at that point I
thought we had taken the Whiteflames Band as far as it
could go as far as playing live was concerned.
So I was very happy to be able to recruit Matt Taylor on
guitar and vocals, and Ruud Weber on bass and vocals.
Once we had decided that we wanted to try something
together we kicked around ideas, mostly through phone
calls and emails, sending mp3s of each other's songs
and finally deciding which ones to try recording.I arranged
to record at my usual studio in the UK and we got together
the day before the recording in a rehearsal studio nearby.
This was the first time we had ever all been in the same
room together so I guess we were all wondering how it
would work out.Luckily, after a few moments playing it
was clear that it was going to work out fine.I'm very happy
with the Blues Project album, and I always look forward
to our live shows. It's good fun!
I'm still working on a new Whiteflames cd, in fact it is now
finished, and I plan to release it sometime later in 2010.It's
possible that the Whiteflames Band will remain only a studio
band from now on, as The Blues Project is already building a
strong live following and it's obvious that, for live performances,
it's the way to go.
As far as I am concerned there's no problem with having two
projects running at the same time and I hope that people can
enjoy both sides of Snowy White!
Thanks for listening.
