CD Review-The Way It Is
Before you ask yourself
"Wasn't he the guitarist with Thin Lizzy"
and assume this album is a rock album,
let me reassure you it isn't. Snowy White
is actually a very accomplished guitarist,
Who has covered many styles,
including having played with Peter Green
in the early 1970's, then after touring
with Pink Floyd, went into the studio
to record the (now collectors item)
Peter Green LP: 'In the Skies".
All of this before his tenure with Thin Lizzy!

This album is recorded with his band,
The White Flames,which is a four-piece outfit.
There is some great musicianship on this album
with a fair mixture of styles. There is a reworking
of his old classic (yes old, it was first released
in 1983!) 'Bird of Paradise'. There is a good
version pf "Black Magic Woman" but the track
that I just kept singing was track 4,
'What I'm Searching for". This isn't an
immediate album, one that you instantly
rave about, but after three of four listens,
you really appreciate it.The first time
you listen to 'Black Magic Woman" and
"What I'm searching For" you find on display
some Latin rhythms reminiscent of Santana
but mellower, and these take a little time
to sink in.Once they do, they are wonderful.
There are more rocky tracks such as
''This Time Of My Life" which makes you
dig out "Fire" by Jimi Hendrix and two tracks
that musicians can relate to, 'Angel Inside You'
(parts 1 and 2), that express what being a
working musician is all about.

The recording quality is excellent and it
really allows all Snowy's subtle touches
to come through. The album ends on the
mellow "Sweet Bluesmaker"
which just chills you out. A great album."

Favourite Snowy White Albums

On this page you could let us know
what is your favourite top 3 of
Snowy White Albums.You can
send your choice to

cbm2005@whiteflames.nl

From Niels A. Danmark
A
s I like most of his albums, selecting three
is pretty difficult. But I shall do my very best...

1st: The Way It Is...Live. Really good songs
and the energy of the live recordings make
it a winner. In addition, I was among the
audience when it was recorded. :o) My
favourite track is Little Wing. I have more
than 10 versions of it with different artists
(including Hendrix himself). This one beats
them all! At first it's so plain and simple,
but if you try to pick up Snowy's tricks,
you are busy for quite a while.

2nd: Highway to the Sun.
T
he Time has Come is my all time favourite
and the guitar solo in Can't Find Love is
absolutely superb. All tracks are good and
the appearance of the guest musicians make
it very diversified. I can't get enough of the blues!

3rd: I would have liked to put one of the Blues
Agency albums here, as Out of Order always
cheers me up. But the prize goes to The Way
It Is. Bird Of Paradise, Angel Inside You and
Falling are out of this world. Like Highway to
the Sun, all tracks are good!

Snowy White-Switserland-20-10-2007

Review of the Uster Gig-Switserland 20-October 2007

It was a good gig. Not an excellent one, but a good one.Max

said after the concert that the sound was not very good, but

in the audience it was pretty good.First constatation about

the choice of the songs:Three of them are taken out of the

"No Faith Required" CD, which is the less commercial and

for me the most ambitious in Snowy's career.

But Snowy said several times to the audience that "No Faith

Required" is one of his favourites, adding that "nobody buyed

it, but nevertheless, I like it". The three songs have also the

advantage to allow some great work of Juan or Max,whose
place in the band seemed to me bigger than in the past. Many

songs were luckily re-arranged, and I have found Max's work

on "Land of Plenty" or"Wintersong" quite excellent. He is not

very spectacular, but he gives the band a solid groove.

The blues classics did not impress me: "Out of Order"and"Long

Grey Mare" don't bring anything particular to the gig, they are

even rather boring. It was good to hear "Highway to the Sun"

Live once again, it was a long time that I haven't heard it.In

the encore, "That's when I'll stop Loving You" did not reach
the intensity of the Rubigen gig,as there was in Uster no

second guitar! The three others in the band are taking much

more place than before, but it is not always a good result.

The long bass solo of Walter, for example,(with all respect

for him!) is not as it's place, because the (very few!)people

who come to the gig come for Snowy's guitar, nothing else.

So... I have also been a little bit disappointed by the "

Whiteflames Blues", a songwhich is certainly not a brilliant composition. So theconcert was quite relax, Snowy enjoying

to play the music he likes, and the others making their part.

There was not much fire, neitheron stage or in the audience,

but in a way or another it was a very classical gig, with no surprise.

The mixture between rock numbers, classical blues and more

sophisticated songs was good. And the small assembly did

appreciate the music. Snowy himself was brilliant,as always;

he played very simply, very humble, with no emphase, without
any stress, and at the end the audience was satisfied. Some guys

in the audience were a little disappointed, for Snowy he did not

play any song of THIN LIZZY (!) or PINK FLOYD. And many of themspoke loud during the bluesy numbers (but it is a problem whichgoes far away of USTER, in LONDON also you have people whoCANNOT listen to the music: they HAVE to speak, and drink, and smoke, and God knows what else...), which shows that they usuallygo to heavy metal concerts, where there is no need to be concentrated).

The point is, that most of the poeople know Snowy because of his

part in Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd or Roger Waters. Not many of them

have followed his solo career. So they comme to see "the guy

who played with.... ". I think the audioence at the gigs would be

wider if Snowy played some classics of Thin Lizzy or Pink Floyd.

But it is another story.Another word about the USTER gig: I don't know how it was organized and by whom. But there is something

sure: the venue owner lost a lot of money with that gig,Because I

feel that the guy in Uster had no idea of whom he let come in his

venue. And I also know that one week before the gig the guy sent

to Renate (webmaster of Snowy's Swiss fanclub) an E-Mail in whichhe complained that he had not sold any ticket and that he feared a financial break-out.

Manifesto Hoorn-Nederland-30-September 2007

In Manifesto-Hoorn speelde

Snowy White & The White Flames.

on you crazy diamonds' Volgend jaar wordt Snowy 60

Snowy White-29-09-2007 Uden-NL

Snowy White and the White Flames -Live on Stage

at de Pul - Uden The Netherlands 29-09-2007

I'm not going to bother you all with what I did before Cecil

and I arrived at the venue in Uden (there was a lots of rain
and laughter)We where there before Snowy and the band

arrived but we could get in through the backstage entrance

and wait in the dressingroom. We didn't had to wait that long

before Snowy arrived. He was very pleased to see Cecil and

gave her a warm welcome and than she introduced me to Snowy.
He already knew my name so that wasn't such a big suprice any

more.....most of the time when I tell my name to an Englishman,
there are lots of laughs and giggles,I don't know why...I have a

very normal common Dutch name...Cock.

After Snowy the other bandmembers came in and I was

introduced to them....Juan....Walter and Max.It was a

pleasure meeting them although it was short...they had

to get to work to get everything alright for the concert .

We witnessed the soundcheck wich took a while before

everything was perfect and to everybodys satisfactory

......I didn't mind that at all it was a pleasure seeing such proffesional people do there work wich is not often seen

by the audience and I had the change taking a few pictures.

After the soundcheck we went out for something to eat and

then it was time waiting for te concert to begin.

Next to me where 3 lovely ladys standing . A mom with her 2 daughters.
For the mom it was the third time to see The White Flames Band, for the daughters it was the first time they only

knew one song....yes off course...Bird of Paradise' but they

where very curious what this evening would bring to them....

I told them it was for me also the first time to see this band live...The youngest daughter replied to me by asking if I was

going to lose my virginity as well this evening with the music

of the band.yeah.....what could I say to that.....Yes of course!

Cecil told me that the concert of last thursday (Breda) was

not as rough as she was used to but a bit tamer than she had promised me....me beeing a Status Quo fan would enjoy the

great solo's of Snowy when he lets himself go.Well...he must

have listened to her because there was never a dull moment in

the set....great solo's from all the bandmembers..Walter on his bassguitar was really a great experience to see and hear...

Juan is a great drummer and formed a very powerfull rhythm-section with Walter.Max was outstanding.....playing most of

the time with his eyes closed....playing with his heart and feeling and Snowy proofed to be a great guitar-player with his precious guitar.

After the show Cecil asked Snowy to pose for a picture with me and hisguitar.....he let me hold his guitar for this picture ! Thank you Snowy for this memorable moment and offcourse I have to thank Cecil for asking me to join her that day...it was realy a day to remember with great music. Thanks to Snowy and his band.It

was great meeting you all.Hope to seeyou again sometime

Snowy White & The White Flamesband

28 September 2007-De Schaag Leeuwarden

2de Verslag
Snowy White & The White Flames

in goede gitaristen.

Snowy White- 27 -09-2007- Netherlands

The White Flames Band -2007

27 -09 -Breda Mezz The Netherlands
With een great dose of eagerness, we made a quick travel

to Breda...to see Snowy and the band ofcourse! We really

wanted to arrive on time, but "thanks" to a too-late-served

meal in one of the restaurants in the middle of Breda's sparkling

centre, we missed Snowy's first song. Happily Hans found a nice

spot to stand, inspite of the crowd. A little fed up by all the rush,

I supported myself to enjoy Snowy's wonderfull sound...and a

joy. it was! I really went "crazy", hearing "Highway to the Sun"
live at the first time. I know, the song sounds a bit commercial,

but it is one of my favorites and...funny detail: it was danceable

(for me it was)! To my surprise, Snowy played a lot of old stuff.

I really liked it. There was a lot of variation: heavy guitar demanding songs and relaxing, sensitive tunes, what unfortunately came along with the noise of the, by the way, most annoying audience I have ever been with.

One of those serene compositions was, the one after No Faith Required"
completely new, but breathtaking for me. Is this

already recorded or wil this be on his next album? Who knows? Thank you guys, for again another fabulous, musical experience!

Breda-27 -09 2007-Zaal Mezz.

Lange uitgesponnen blues nummers, afgewisseld

met een meer rockend geluid. De bassist die een bijzondere

solo akt laat zien.Het concert duurt bijna 2 uur en vliegt

voorbij.

Snowy White & The White Flames
Spirit of 66 Belgium 26 -09-2007

Was in last April on the second row, just in front of the

stage, for the Roger Waters concert in Antwerp. I had

been impressed by all the musicians on this fantastic show,

but in particular by the guitar player Snowy White.

A few weeks later, when I saw he would come to play at

the Spirit of 66, I was one of the first to buy my tickets

for his concert.I knew that he had been member of Thin

Lizzy, that he often played with Pink Floyd, and when I

was younger, I loved his main hit "Bird of Paradise".That

was all what I knew about him. I expected the concert

would be sold out, and however the club was not completely

full. But I think that everyone who came to hear it enjoyed it.

Accompanying Snowy, Walter Latupeirissa (bass guitar),
Max Middleton (keyboard) and Juan van Emmerloot (drums) gave

some strong "jazz-rock"accents to this music.

Concert Reviews-2005-1996

Snowy White & The White Flames

Gevarenwinkel Festival  Herselt-Belgium

Friday the 26th of August 2005

Herselt is situated north-east of Bruxelles. And for the Lahouste family(my wife Brigitte,my daughter Caroline and myself),it took us 3 hours to reach this blues festival. But who cares ? Although I

am 56, I am used to go far away to see some good bands. We were

very exited, even anxious for it was to be the first time in our life

we would see Snowy in person. Cecil had planned everything for us,

and we’ll be thankful all our life for what she did: arrange a meeting backstage with Snowy and his musicians !

The festival organizers have to be congratulated too; they organized everything well: a big top able to shelter some 2000 persons, places to drink, to eat, etc..And more over the weather was clement:not too hot and a bit windy. The day was looking promising !When we arrived, we showed up at the reception.Snowy hadn’t turned up yet,so we went under the top and listened to a good blues band from America:“Little Charlie and the nightcats”. It wasn’t bad at all. There were a good harmonica and great guitars.

Then we finally received the authorisation to enter in Snowy’s

bungalow. The whole family was anxious, but Snowy and his band

welcomed us so warmly that we almost immediately felt well.Snowy

was defining the set order with Richard, but he immediately took

care of us. He’s a very friendly person. Not a bit proud and soooo

handsome (as my wife and daughter said). In a few words: he’s a

great man !We talked for a while. He asked us where we came from,

what we were doing. And we offered him some good white wine

from France, which he appreciated a lot. Then, while we were

having fun with Walter and Richard,we took many pictures

of our "star". Max was sitting on a chair, very calm and

visibly amused to seeing our complicity. I also have to say

that they were in good company with my two ladies. After

15 minutes of discussion, we’ve let them go preparing

the gig. They had to check instruments, make the sound

check, etc... And it wasn’t easy  with the festival conditions.

The concert started at 23 PM in front of some 2000 persons.

For the first time we saw Snowy and his fellows live. What a

concert ! And what a deception to see the public,a large

majority drunk, keeping on talking, laughing, without really

listening what was going on on stage. There was so much

noise that for Terpisah, Walter’s solo song, Richard had to ask

for silence. And what a surprise: no way to get a bit of silence !

Snowy had put “Bird of paradise” on his playlist, but because of

all the noise around, he finally didn’t play it. Apart a few technical

problems, the show was exceptional and the band on great form.

Max seemed a bit tired, but it might also simply be his nature as

well.In any case,he is a very talented musician. Walter spent the

gig watching Snowy for whom he seems to have a deep admiration.

And last but not least: Richard, who offered us a drumming lesson,

never lost an occasion of playing the fool and made us signs when

he saw us in the crowd. It has really been great to see and listen

our long time idol. What a talented musician, what a guitarist of

great distinction !

It seemed to me that the show lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes

with a nice and complete playlist: No stranger to the blues;

What I’m searching for; Little wing; I loved another woman;

The answer; Land of plenty; Lucky star; American dream;

Terpisah solo; Working blues; Angel inside you; then

the encore with: That’s when I’ll stop loving you;"This

time of my life" and "Piece of your love".All the

songs were great and perfectly performed, but I have

a preference for "I loved another woman" "The answer"

for its metal side, and also "Angel inside you "(from

Snowy’s last CD) which does it well on stage.

After the concert, we went back backstage to congratulate

the musicians with whom we had a last drink. We took another

pictures; Snowy signed some of his cds for our friends. And

all of this in a very friendly atmosphere. Then we had to go.

The ladies didn’t miss the occasion to steal some kisses.

In short, it has been a great moment. This day will be forever

in our memories: to rub shoulders with such a star wouldn’t

have been possible without the very efficient Cecil. A big

thanks to her ! To spend some time with someone who

played in front of some 350.000 persons (the Wall, with

Roger Waters), for sure that’s all what we could wish for.

So farewell mister Snowy and his band ! We’d like to see

you soon… maybe in France ?

Concertreviews 1997-Noorderligt,Tilburg,

The Netherlands-13 february 1997

If you ever saw Snowy,Juan and Walter play live, you would know

something interesting might happen one day. "No faith required"

is the CD on which it happens. A bounch of very distinctive songs,

styled to the earlier work Snowy has done.Together with some

creative input from these musicians, created a style of their own

for the band. All in all it was enough to get hopes up high for some

memorable live performance and it was lucky Mr.white found his way to Holland to play live! The show started with a slow, very laid back, completely redone version of the Mayfield's classic"Memory Pain".After that things went along with a mixture of the old and new.All the songs were played with great ease and confidence and they took time to improvise when they felt like it.A great performance with some beautiful guitar, firece drumming, a solid bass and a nice solo from Walter(encouraged by his family in the crowd).Although it was not the best of the Dutch shows, the mixture of styles went down really well with the crowd.

The White Flames Band- France-New Morning

Paris-France-20 September 1996
The concert started at 9.10 pm.There were two of Peter

Green' songs and several tracks from Snowy's recent album

"No Faith Required" which were full of feeling and warmth.

I was very impressed by Juan's powerfull drum playing tremendously effective and joyful.Walter sang a great solo;

he made the samesound as his bassguitar.Really impressive.

During a new track Snowy gradually reduced his amplifier

until there was no sound and thinking it was finished, the

audience started to applaud...but they loved when he turned

it back up and continued playing. What i noticed was the

empathy between the three musicians they were brimming

with inspiration the whole time.I discovered two long compositions, more jazzy and professionally orientated.

Afterwards my two friends and I went backstage to see

our hero.I got his autographs on my two "Blues Agency"

Cd's covers.

The Previous day Peter Green had attended his gig in the

UK,and the good news was that he was getting beter and better.Briefly Snowy is a gifted artist who deserve more recognition.

Concert Review Germany-1996

Snowy White & The White Flames
Sallerhalle,Winterbach Germany-July 1st-1996
It was more or less by change that I heard the news four

weeks before the concert took place:Snowy White, one of

my musical heroes since the days of "Bird of Pardise" was

going to play in a small town.Winterbach(near Stutgart)

about 40 miles away from my hometown. There were two

bands announced for the evening"Snowy White & The

White Flames which had been flown in for this single

concert in German, and Roger Chapman + The Shortlist.

The quite small hall(Sallerhalle) was visited by about

500 people;most of them seemed to have to come for

Roger Chapman, who is very popular in Germany.Only

a handfull of Snowy White fans could be identified,

so I was curious about the way the audience would

react to him.

Snowy opened with a 6 minutes version of "Looking For

Somebody" a Peter Green written blues song which had

been Snowy's contribution to the Peter Green tribute

album "Rattlesnake Guitar".The band was welcome by

the audience very friendly, those not being familair with

Snowy's music were suprised about the virtuosity and the

unique feeling of his guitar playing, and the handfull of

harcore fans like myself were just happy to see this highly

gifted musician and his bandface to face. The second song

was called 'Welcome To The Blues' in spite of the title not

a real blues song.but a hot rock song with great work by the

rythm section Juan and Walter (their playing in this song

reminded me a bit of Golden Earing's "Radar Love") and a

catchy rif guitar by Snowy in the second half of this 7

minutes song. The next song was announced as the Title track

of the forthcoming album"No faith Required, that should

released in september as Snowy told the audience.

This song was one of the highlights of the show, soulfull guitar

playing, dynamic rhythm work and as much as I could understand

with my very knowledge of the English language, very thoughtfull

lyrics.Following was"Memory Pain" an old Curits Mayfield song that Snowy had learned in Thin Lizzy.Another song of the new album"In The Name Of The lord" was the highlight of this wonderfull evening for me. Minutes of inspiring melody, suprising changes of rhythm and good lyrics again I'm curious how the studio version of this song, which could become one of Snowy's classic's sound. The next song called "Working Blues"(aka" Keep On Working") was announced by Snowy as follows 'I'd like to dedicate it to everyone here who can' get up on a monday morning" and someone in the crowd yelled"I can't get up on any morning ".Then two more new songs followed"The More You Give" and a 20 minutes version of"A Miracle I need'.The latter being a real" tour de force" featuring an extended bass solo by Walter and outstanding drumming by Juan.

By the way I wasn't suprised about the brilliance of Snowy's playing
because I had known that for many years, but I was really suprised about Juan's drum work.he must have been the best drummer I've seen for many years in any concert, and the people standing around me agreed with me.An encore followed, the well-known "Long Hot Saterday Night" and then Snowy's part of the evening over much to soon. The audience was left really enthusiatic and I'm sure Snowy and The White Flames won a lot of new friends.Afterwards I went backstage with some friends to congratulate Snowy with his great show and to collect autographs.

I had bought a gift for Snowy. He's such a kind hearted and humble guy.He told us he regretfully had to shorten his show (that lasted 80 minutes in Winterbach) for about 20 minutes and promissed to come back for a tour in autumn.I'll be there Snowy and I'm sure your next album featuring nuggets like "A Miracle I need" and

"In The Name Of The Lord" will be a big step forward in your carreer.
